After 13 successful all female programmes, WeMindTheGap will deliver our first young men’s cohort in Manchester commencing in March 2020. Our pilot project will support up to 10 young men aged 18 – 25 who haven’t had the best start in life to move from being ‘prisoners of circumstances to being pilots of their own lives’.
To be successful you will need to demonstrate a willingness to have an open mindset and think differently; be curious and trust in our ethos on trauma and behaviours in adolescents; be personally resilient enough to support our young men; and be capable of bringing positive energy to the group. You will be of the community, and in the community.
Most importantly, you will be the ultimate role model to those you are supporting.
As ‘Support Worker’ (our family ethos means that we much prefer the title ‘Big Brother’) you deliver the 26-week programme in tandem with the “Skipper”, who leads from the helm. You will walk alongside each Gappie, role modelling behaviours and communication, demonstrating how to liaise with employer partners, agencies and other professionals. You will lead mini-workshops to help the young people learn new skills and think differently. You will provide practical hands on support and be responsible for the holistic, love and care of each Gappie, for example you will ensure each has a GP, Dentist and Optician, that they have online bank accounts and have a pair of shoes for work and a coat for winter.
This will be a fixed term contract of 40 weeks, commencing late-January. Based in Manchester City you will work 30 hours a week across Monday – Friday (with the first 6 weeks of delivery being 37.5 hours to accommodate 2 residential weeks that you will attend). Salary scale will be £20-22K pro rata depending on skills and experience.
You will be educated to at least Level 3 (A’Level equivalent) , have a clean and full driving licence so that you can drive our pool car for work and demonstrate the ability to be a team player.
